PEE!

Last night was bath night for Emelia.  She LOVES her baths and if her skin didn't dry out so much we'd give her a bath every night!  I'm still in the process of finding a nice soap and lotion combination that keeps her skin nice and soft and moist.

Anyway, while I got her little tub ready I had John undress her and bring her into the bathroom.  When I do that, I usually leave her diaper on and take her diaper off in the bathroom RIGHT before putting her in the water.  Well, John decided to take her diaper off in her room and carry her into the bathroom naked.  Unfortunately, I didn't have the water yet, so I had him hold her a few minutes while the tub got partially filled.

All of a sudden, he said "Oh Honey!  You need to take her!" and he had this hilarious look on his face.  I said, "What, did she pee on you?" not really being serious, just joking, and he said "Yeah, she did."

Did I ever laugh my ASS off!!  Sure enough, when I took her, there was pee on John's shirt.  I laughed and laughed.  John didn't appreciate me laughing at him, but after I told him she has peed and pooped on me in the past, he wasn't so mad about it.

Ahhh, the joys of being parents! :)

Cereal and Sippy Cups

We are now well into the process of learning and mastering eating cereal.  We are using the Rice cereal with Apple in it.  We did the plain rice cereal for a while, but she didn't care too much for that.  Since we've switched to the apple cereal, she seems to be doing a little better.  She still doesn't seem to care too much for it, tries to spit it out, but she does eventually get it all in and she seems to be getting the hang of it a little bit more.  We now have daycare giving her some cereal once a day there, too, so hopefully Emelia will get the hang of it to the point where we can start trying some other foods like peas, beans, and eventually some fruits.  Emelia does get all messy, staying true to being a baby, but it's so darn cute and fun to be doing something new!

Last night we introduced a sippy cup to her, too.  She was more interested in chewing on the spout, but she did try to get some of the milk out of it.  I figured it can't hurt to introduce the thing to her and get her started on that.  I bought a sippy cup for her to take to daycare, too, and try that!

It is fun to do all this new stuff, but it gets to be a little discouraging when she doesn't want to cooperate every time, but then I just have to remind myself that she is learning, too, and that this is all new to her!  Similar to when she was first born and learning how to nurse and adapt to the life outside of the womb!  She is a smart baby and will get it eventually!

Giggles!

Lastly for the day, I had to share about Emelia's giggles!  She has finally figured out how to laugh and giggle!  It so adorable and like music to my ears!  Sometimes the silliest things make her laugh.  The other day, I just kept saying "silly girl!" in this half deep voice and she cracked right up!  I LOVE it!  Today at Easter, I was able to get her to giggle for the rest of our family and I was super proud.  Especially because I was the only one who was able to get her to laugh today!! :)  I sure do love her and I know she's happy, but hearing that giggle just reinforces that so much!

Nothing is more miraculous than this little darling! :)

Finally!

HALLELUJAH!!

The weather has finally turned the corner into more Spring-like weather!  Mother nature actually teased us for a while.  We had gorgeous weather, warm temps, sun... it was glorious!  THEN, we got really bad storms (so bad, Emelia and I went into the basement to avoid wind and hail) and winter came back for about a week and a half!  We even had a couple rounds of snow return!  It was a bummer!  But, it seems as if it's better now, today has been beautiful, and although a lot of rain is forecast this week, it's supposed to be warmer!

The best part, though, is that I've been able to take Emelia on a few walks!  It was wonderful to be able to get outdoors, and even more wonderful to share it with Emelia.  She enjoys going outside, there are so many things to look at and experience.  She doesn't like the sun and it's brightness, but she's adapting to it!  Her favorite thing to look at are the chickens, then the dogs, cat, and the cows.  She seems a bit intimidated by the cows, since they're so big, but she doesn't act scared.  We tried to play with bubbles one day outside, but she was more interested in watching the dogs.

In the near future, John and I are going to get a swing set for Emelia and set it up.  We are going to get one of the nice wooden ones that last and are durable.  If she's anything like me, and John, she'll be rough on things, especially outside, so we are going with the best!  I can't wait to have it set up! :)

It doesn't look like we'll get much outside time this week, like I said, a lot of rain is forecast.  Hopefully by the weekend it's warm and nice.  I'd love to take Emelia to a park so she could swing (if they have infant swings) and especially to see all the other children.  She LOVES to watch other kids!  That's usually what catches her eye in church!

And soon we hope to be able to wear some of the cute summery clothes we have!  Dresses, skirts, shorts!  I can't wait!  And so much to do this summer!  Parades, zoos, swimming, fishing!  Oh how much fun it will be to share the world with my baby girl!  It's all so exciting for me, like I'm living all over again!  I couldn't ask for more! :)

Tid Bits...

Emelia is learning so much these days!  Her newest feat is blowing raspberries with her tongue and lips.  She does it ALL THE TIME!  Some days, her shirts get soaked from all the spit flying out of her mouth!  It's cute, though.  She also has learned how to say the "bah" sound, but she prefers blowing raspberries over anything.  She also squeals a lot, especially when she is playing or having fun. For a while, her favorite thing to do was growl.  There is a baby at daycare that is about 2 months older than Emelia.  This baby growls all the time and Emelia picked up on it.  For about a week all Emelia did was growl!  I thought it was funny, but it creeped John out.  He compared it to the Exorcist movie!  I reassured him Emelia is not possessed!

Emelia has also figured out how to roll onto her belly from her back.  She doesn't do it often, but she will do it occasionally.  It's really funny when she can't figure out how to get back onto her back.  She's never been a big fan of tummy time, so she quickly gets upset when she's stuck! Every now and then, Emelia actually sleeps on her tummy now.  One morning I woke up to find her out like a light on her tummy, which is not how I laid her down for bed the night before!  That same day, she did it at daycare!  Goofy baby!

If she isn't rolling, she scoots.  We will lay her on the floor and minutes later, Emelia is across the living room not even close to where we laid her down!  It won't be long and we'll be having to baby proof this place like crazy!!

She is now sleeping in her pack n'play in our room.  She has outgrown her cradle.  She always had it cocked to one side because she wasn't small enough to lay in the middle anymore.  At first it was hard for her to adjust to the pack n'play and all the new space, but now she is doing great.  I figure after a few months in the pack n'play she will be upgraded to her crib in her room.  I am just not ready to move her yet, I am so paranoid about SIDS!  I wake up frequently at night to listen for her breathing!  She's gotten much better and falling asleep on her own, also.  Most nights when I lay her down she is partially awake and she sleeps great!  Last night, she got all squirmy when she was done eating.  I thought she was having trouble falling asleep, but it turned out, she just wanted to be laid down and she was out!

Eating solids, specifically Rice cereal, is going ok.  She doesn't seem to care for it all that much.  She generally spits most of it out, but I think she's slowly getting the hang of it.  Emelia prefers milk, specifically momma's milk "straight from the tapper", as my husband puts it!  He fed her some banana yesterday.  I wasn't too happy he did that, as we were going to go to vegetables first, but I didn't get mad at him.  He has to have his chance to parent, also!  Apparently, she kind of liked the banana, but wasn't crazy about it.  :)

Daycare continues to go well!  She is always happy when I drop her off and always happy when I pick her up!  She's never been crying once when I picked her up, which is an extremely reassuring sign for me! :)

John continues to watch Emelia while I work my every other weekend mornings.  At first it was kind of rough on all of us, mostly John and I, but now it's going great!  John is to the point where he's looking forward to his weekends with her, and she's adjusting well, eating and sleeping great for him, and happy to have her "days with daddy"!  I think a big part was he needed to feel comfortable and confident that he could properly take care of Emelia on his own.  Once he realized he could, it's been a whole lot better!

I think Emelia has been growing again.  This week she has been a little more irritable and her latch has been terrible, as well as her focus while she's been eating!  She feels heavier and looks longer again, too!

All in all, things are going great.  I have a happy, healthy, beautiful, amazing, perfect 5 month old! (She was 5 months old two days ago!!)  It's a true testament to my parenting skills when people tell me she's "the best baby ever" and "she's so happy and never cries"!  I must've done something right! :)  Motherhood is sure great, albeit challenging at times, but I wouldn't go back if I could! :0)

Easter!

Today was Emelia's first Easter!  It has been a beautiful and special day!  We woke up to sunshine (which our area hasn't seen for a few days) and in great moods!  The Easter Bunny brought us a few goodies, Emelia got a new outfit and a "My 1st Easter" bib!  We colored eggs the other day.  Emelia didn't quite understand what we were doing, but she enjoyed the family time as well as banging her egg on her highchair tray!  Emelia had a beautiful Easter dress she wore to church, courtesy of her very stylish Great Aunt Suzie!

Speaking of Aunt Suzie!  She got Emelia a whole basket full of Easter goodies!  She got this chicken that says a rhyme and wiggles it's wings.  When you tickle under the chicken's wings, it laughs!  It is cute, but Emelia wasn't sure what to think of it at first!  She did eventually warm up to the chicken, but it took a bit.

Emelia is always the center of attention at family gatherings!  Sometimes she gets tired of it and wants her mommy, which is a good feeling :)  Usually to get away from it all, Emelia will eat a little to get some "mom" time.  It sure makes me feel good!

Now we are home and Emelia and Daddy are taking naps.  What a wonderful and special day we've had!

Shopping...

Yet another day today of shopping for Emelia and I!  This weather needs to get nice soon before I break the bank!  All we ever have to do is go shopping, so on our days off from work and daycare, that's what we do.  We dropped another $150.00 today and we only got a few things!  Part of that was gas to get to the town we shop at, also!  It's warmer outside today, so let's hope it continues to get warm!

Tonight is a big night in our house!  Emelia is going to get her first taste of food!  We are starting with the rice cereal, which I imagine tastes pretty bland, but this will give her the change to feel food in her mouth and learn what to do with it!  I am excited!

I finally got a memory card for our video camera we got for Christmas, so we are going to do our first run with that tonight taping her first experience with food! :)

Emelia has officially outgrown swaddling!  She has been sick, so to allow her enough space, etc to cough properly, I didn't swaddle her for a couple nights and now she busts out of the swaddle when I do it and she then gets cold, doesn't sleep, and I'm up in the middle of the night!  No we just wear a blanket sleeper and use a blanket!  It's been going well, especially as her cough gets a little better!

I can't wait to break the stroller out and go for a nice long walk up our lightly traveled back road!  I am excited for Emelia to experience the outdoors... think of all the sights and sounds she will be exposed to!  I can't wait to show her that there's a wonderful world outside of the house, daycare, car, and department stores!! :)

Hopefully soon we can go for our walk!  Until then, shopping continues to be our favorite thing!! :)
